Castles and Battlefields in Mid Wales Our sightseeing day tour of the castles of Mid Wales takes in the dramatic but lesser known castles of Mid Wales and the borders with the opportunity to explore the history of its medieval Welsh princes and their enemies...

Tour stopping at 4 castles and 1 battleground. Some very steep walks up grassy banks and muddy farm tracks. Steps and steep drops at some castles. Depart 0900 - return around 1700. Numerous comfort break stops available with morning and afternoon refreshments provided and lunch break of up to 1 hour in Montgomery or Bishops Castle.

Tinboeth Castle - Steep 15 minute walk on farm track through woodland and bracken followed by 10 minute walk up steep grassy field and over 1 stile. Minimum stonework remains but extensive defensive banks and ditches.

Dolforwyn Castle - Steep 10 minute walk up uneven farm track then 5 minute gentle walk across grassy field. Extensive stonework remains with steep drops, steps up and down onto castle ruins.
 
Rhydwyman, River Severn. Minimum walking across flat muddy ground to river bank.
 
Montgomery Castle - Steep 10 minute walk from town centre to castle or flat 5 minute walk from castle car park. Extensive stonework remains with steep drops, steps up and down. Lunch stop.
 
View Bishops Castle town & Offas Dyke.
 
Clun Castle - Steep 10 minute walk across grassy fields - muddy when wet. Stonework remains with steep drops. Extensive steep grassy ditches.
 
Offa's Dyke interpretation centre, Knighton.
 
Pilleth Church and Battleground - Minimum walking on flat grassy path.
